About The Butterfly Company
We have always had a deep love of nature and in particular of butterflies. We have been breeding butterflies since 1987. At that time butterflies were becoming noticeably fewer in the environment; not only the Monarch but also the Red and Yellow Admiral butterflies that are unique to New Zealand.
We began to establish a butterfly garden, especially designed and planted to attract butterflies. We would breed butterflies and release them back into the garden. This was interesting and lots of fun. Many would stay around and there were always butterflies in our garden. Friends and visitors would comment on this and always enjoyed being there. From this garden came our inspiration to work with butterflies and share their real beauty and magic with others.
We have gained a depth of knowledge and experiance over many years of breeding butterflies. This has enabled us to develop, over time, reliable and repeatable butterfly breeding techniques that consistently produce large and healthy butterflies. Reliability is the essential element, with exact delivery dates always achieved.
The Butterfly Company is the original supplier of live butterfly releases in New Zealand.
We have successfully supplied butterflies to numerous weddings and events nationwide. Our butterflies have also appeared in many television commercials and in both short and feature films. We appeared in The Palmers Garden Show (TVNZ). This feature on butterfly gardening was filmed in our own private garden. An episode for the childrens television programme " What Now" was also filmed in the garden.

All customers are supplied with butterfly care and release information covering all conditions. Photographic tips are included. Special words to incorporate butterflies into your event are available.
All our butterflies receive individual care and attention, from a tiny egg to an adult butterfly. We raise all our own butterflies. We love what we do and take great care in doing it.
We believe our high standards are achieved because of this.
